"Do whatever He tells you"

Music is the melody of our lives, giving color and expression to wordless wonders. Some seasons of our lives are reflected in relaxing and peaceful melodies. Other seasons of life can be spent in an exciting undertone of change and brightness. Others yet take on a melancholic melody that seeps into our marrow. Music speaks the words we sometimes lack yet feel so deeply.

Some of my greatest blessings have been borne through music and song. Although I sometime receive a sideways glance at this assertion, my most fulfilling avenue of participating in the Divine Life is when singing for funerals. As my faith journey and walk with the Lord has deepened, my prayer before every funeral is “Lord, take over my voice. Let what everyone hear be your unique love song to them individually.” This is a prayer He answers every time, and it is humbling every time. I am blessed when people approach me afterwards thanking me for singing. It gives me an opportunity to embrace them in a loving hug and tell them of my prayer and how much the Lord wanted to wrap them in His love. Our hearts are so raw when we lose our loved ones. In these times especially it is such a gift to be able to accompany, in some small way, His beloved on their sacred journey.
