Spiritual Direction has been an integral element in my faith journey. My own spiritual director has provided the sacred space for me to explore the movements of my heart in relation to what I experience with God and others. This is the goal of spiritual direction; to help the directee find God in all things. “A spiritual director needs to be capable of recognizing the action of God, and how the Lord works in each soul to awaken and draw them to Himself.” Evangelii Guadium.
I am embarking on this journey to obtain my spiritual direction certification through Divine Mercy University to provide to others the same fruitfulness I have experienced with my spiritual director. My role as a spiritual director is to help a directee grow in our universal call to holiness, always listening for the ways the Lord is uniquely calling them into that invitation and accompanying them along the way.
Spiritual direction is not spiritual friendship, physiological counseling, nor a Catholic self-help program. Burke (2012), but rather an added “listener” helping you discover the ways the Lord is actively present in your life. Sometimes the greatest gift is simply helping another see what is already right in front of us.
